TDS measures river and flash-flood discharge without touching the water. Camera-based stations read surface velocity and water level and compute discharge in real time, which makes them suited to wadis that flow a few times a year at destructive speeds and to large rivers where in-stream gauging is slow and costly. In Saudi Arabia TDS sited, supplied, installed and operated five stations on wadis in a region with no historical flow record; in the UAE, ten stations on flood-prone wadis; and on the Nile in Egypt a pilot that applies the same technology to continuous river-discharge measurement [confirm number of sites]. In each case TDS selected the sites, installed and operated the stations, and managed and analysed the data.
